Red Deer Meals On Wheels
About Us
About Us
Meals on Wheels made our first delivery in Red Deer in 1979. We are a non-profit service provided to the elderly or individuals who are facing difficulties with the purchasing and/or preparation of food due to circumstances such as illness, recent hospitalizations, age or inadequate facilities. Our clients may be self-referred or referred by doctors, families, social workers, caregivers, hospitals or seniors' organizations. This program is unique in Red Deer as there is no other program in the city that delivers hot meals directly to those in need on a daily basis. Our clients depend on us to fulfill this mission and we rely on support from volunteers and the community in order to achieve this. To keep the program running successfully we rely on a team of over 50 volunteer drivers, as well as one full time staff, two part time staff, and a board of directors.
Our meals consist of a nutritionally balanced entrée, soup, dessert, and a salad twice per week. Meals are delivered hot to our clients' doors at lunchtime from Monday through Friday. Additionally, cold meals are delivered on Fridays for weekend meals if requested by the client. Our menu is on a nine week rotation to ensure as much variety as possible.
Our service allows our clients to stay healthy, active, independent, and engaged in the community, while preventing potential physical and emotional difficulties due to inadequate nutrition, loneliness, and isolation. We provide informal monitoring for our clients and peace of mind for family members who take comfort in knowing that their loved one will have a daily check for their social well being.

Red Deer Meals on Wheels is serviced by Brother'z Diner. All of our meals are homemade daily in a commercial kitchen to ensure quality and freshness. We do our best to accommodate specialized diets, nutrition restrictions and needs of our clients. In this way, we make every effort to ensure our clients' satisfaction.
Mission
Our mission is to provide a hot, nutritious noonday meal to those unable to prepare or obtain one for themselves.
